Airless Tennis Ball version 1.1. Tested and approved!
After several tests, we concluded that the geometry presented in this model is the one that performs the best with the given materials.
The conclusions on recommended materials show that to achieve impact resistance it must be printed on flexible materials with a certain level of hardness to keep bounciness.
The best material to print this ball is TPU 98A since it gives a bounce similarity to the real one. (Almost 50% from the drop distance)
PLA Flex also gives a bounce similar to the official one but can be seen some cracks after a while of use. (We are testing a new mesh redesign for this material in particular).
TPU 95A resists impacts without breaking but has a bounce reduced to approximately 20%.
PLA or PLA+ will work only for displaying purposes. We do not recommend using these materials if you want to make it bounce as it can break easily.
v1.1 Fixed seam line detail to enhance bevel from hex mesh.
