Description

Airless Tennis Ball 2.0, a complete redesign based on feedback received from more than 10,000 downloads of the previous model.

Updates:

Improved hex mesh density to add strength and functionality in a wider range of materials.
General increase in thickness for a better feeling of weight and bounce.
Polished seam line to achieve homogeneous bounce capacity throughout the entire ball and better aesthetic approximation.

The conclusions on recommended materials show that to achieve impact resistance it must be printed on flexible materials with a certain level of hardness to keep bounciness.

Recommended materials for bounciness aproach are TPU 98A and PLA Flex (as seen in gif from 3DJVModels, check his profile!). They are materials similar in their hardness, which provide a bounce distance of +-50% from the drop height, while the official bounce is 53-58%.

TPU 95A resists impacts without breaking but has a bounce reduced to approximately 20% from drop height.

Among flexible materials, TPU in its different hardness provides an incredible level of layer adhesion, which is why it achieves the highest tested impact resistance without cracks.

PLA or PLA+ will work only for displaying purposes. We do not recommend using these materials if you want to make it bounce as it can break easily.

@xALPHA99x how did you get that quality? really nice print btw. i printed with the same flash forge flexible filament in black and with the FPLA profile - 0.16mm layer, 2 walls, 25% infill on a p1p and the inside looked really smooth when printing but the outside was all bubbled up when finished, did you print this in a filament dryer box

I dried it in a heated dry box for ~6 hours at 55c...and then printed it straight from that dry box while being heated

Through some live adjustments and the addition of an FPLA filament, this print profile was a great way to help me tune in settings for the FPLA filament itself. I have added a new print profile using for the filament I had used. Bounces pretty well too. Great model! The left in this picture is my new profile and the right was using this profile with adjustments as it was printing. Overhangs where quite a challenge but we got to start somewhere!

Take a look to the profile that 3DVJModels has uploaded in this model! nice optimization. I used the same profile to the one that i used for general TPU, as well uploaded in this model.
