Description

Montessori Number Sticks: Optimized "5-Color" Edition

This is a functional remix of the classic counting sticks designed specifically for efficiency, ease of printing, and enhanced tactile learning. While the original concept is brilliant, needing 10+ distinct filament colors is a barrier for many. I’ve redesigned this set to be printable with just 5 core colors (plus a 6th for the box), making it perfect for standard 4-slot AMS units or manual filament swaps.

Key Improvements:

  • Optimized Color Palette: Reduced to 5-6 total colors. By repeating colors in a logical sequence, we maintain the distinction between numbers without needing a rainbow of spools.
  • AMS Friendly (But not required): Designed to be printed easily with 4+1 spools.
  • Tactile Number Inlays: I’ve added color-coded number inlays (1-10) for the bottom of each slot. These are glued in to help children associate the physical quantity with the visual numeral.
  • Streamlined Quantity: Reduced to 10 sticks per number, with box heights adjusted accordingly. This keeps the footprint compact and reduces print time.
  • Simplified Assembly: No multi-material "painting" required in the slicer; the inlays are printed separately and glued for a clean, professional look.

Why this remix?

The goal was to make this wonderful educational tool more accessible to the community. It’s faster to print, uses less material, and the added number inlays provide an extra layer of cognitive reinforcement for young learners.

Assembly Note: Simply print the box, the sticks, and the number inlays. Use a drop of superglue to secure the numbers into their respective slots.
