IKEA KALLAX Back Support Plate

This is a modular back support plate designed specifically for IKEA KALLAX shelves.
The system consists of four identical plates, each sized 173.25 × 173.25 mm, which are printed separately and then assembled together to form a full back panel.

🎯 Main Design Purpose – Vinyl Record Support

The original motivation behind this design was a common problem with vinyl storage in KALLAX shelves:

When records are pushed back into the shelf, they often drag other records with them due to friction, causing misalignment and the uneven look shown in the “before” photos.
Previously, I solved this manually by pushing the records back from the rear.

With this design, the support legs can be mounted facing outward at the back of the shelf, directly supporting the records from behind.
As shown in the “after” GIF, this completely prevents the records from being pushed together unintentionally and keeps them neatly aligned.

🔄 Second Use Case – Back Panel for KALLAX Cabinet Doors

As a secondary use, the same system can be installed with the support legs facing inward, staying inside the shelf.

I personally printed and use that cabinet door project, and after finishing my vinyl shelves, I plan to print additional doors for the remaining compartments.

📐 Fit & Construction Details

• Designed for friction fit into KALLAX cabinets
• Full assembled size (corner to corner): 336.50 × 336.50 mm
• Each support leg length: 400 mm
• No glue required
• The first prototype had two joints per edge
• In the uploaded version, I added an additional center joint for improved strength and stability
