Álvaro Siza : Housing and shopping-Concept model
Print Profile(1)

Description
Three color scale model of a project entitled "Duas habitações e duas lojas" [Housing and shopping complex, Schilderswijk] located in The Hague, Netherlands, built between 1985-1988 and designed by portuguese architect Alvaro Siza with danish firm Mecanoo. The building marries Amsterdam School and New Hague School styles in a unique composition and provides an inhabited presence and services to the community within a public park.
A more detailed description of the project along with digitized drawings and construction photos available on the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) website link.
Renderings of my ongoing digital reconstruction using Blender are shown on my Pinterest link.
The files are Creative Commons - NonCommercial - By attribution to myself "Luc Doucet".
The print was designed and modeled by myself in Blender 4.3 with 3 colors red(PLA), white (PETG) and black (PETG), 0.4mm nozzle, 0.00mm layer, 2 Walls and 15% infill. Most of the model is hollowed out to minimize the quantity of material. Some proportions of the building have been adjusted in order to facilitate printing and assembly.
Feedback is welcome and I encourage you to post photos of your printed results.
Issues:
v1.0 - 2025.12.28: A recurring uneven or underextruded layer on the facade near the top roof of the white house may be due to residue on the nozzle accumulating or a flow rate difference when the bottom white plate is being ironed smooth. Looking into adding a cleaning step using gCode to correct it.
