Description

A work in progress modular mounting system for Opel (Vauxhall) Astra H.

This mounting system features modular design, so you can create your own things that you want to mount - cupholders, phone holders and so on.

In my case I wanted a more convienently placed cupholder. I didn't like other designs on the internet due to quite inconvienent placement, mostly on the radio extraction holes or air vents. My design, however, lets you place cupholder in the passenger trim panel where driver and passenger can easily access drinks.

Im pretty sure it would be possible to brute force the mounting plate in without dissasembly, but here's what I did:

To install the mounting plate, you need to remove radio (you can use dedicated cheap tool or 4 small screwdrivers or nails). Then you need to remove climate control unit by pulling outwards and then you can access 2xT20 screws. Remove them and then you can pull out trim panel by pulling. Then you can unclip one side of the long passenger trim and pull the rest of it and you can place the mounting plate. Reassembly in reverse.

Side note - this is a work in progress and im not a good designer nor engineer. The shape of the trim was aproximated with soldering wire and photo with known dimension item. The mounting plate and cup holder mount dovetail needs more clearence to fit correctly which was solved by filing the meeting edges. The mounting plate is not held in the trim as secure as I would like to but its definetely usable and will hold quite some weight. Also, the mounting plate must be printed sideways, so the layer lines wouldn't break easily.

Ill try to update the model as time goes on.
