Modular Tray System for 55L Ezystorage Tubs
Print Profile(1)

Description
This modular two-part tray system was originally designed for long-term filament storage inside 55L Ezystorage Bunker Tough tubs (58 x 38 x 40.8 cm). These containers are stackable, water- and dust-proof, making them ideal for protecting sensitive materials from moisture and environmental exposure.
Each tray is split into left and right halves, with matching lids that are fully interchangeable — rotate them 180 degrees and they still align perfectly with the tray recesses. This symmetry ensures that the left lid fits the right tray and vice versa, simplifying use and assembly.
The trays are designed to hold silica beads, mothballs, or other protective agents — anything you want to use to preserve or protect the contents of the tub without direct contact. I personally use 300 grams of silica beads per tray, which is more than sufficient for the internal volume of the 55L container. This creates a separate airflow zone inside the tub, allowing desiccants or deterrents to work effectively without touching the stored items. Whether you're storing filament, old clothes, sensitive documents, electronics, or household goods, this system helps protect them from moisture, pests, and environmental exposure.
For those who want to monitor humidity, I use Govee Bluetooth smart thermo-hygrometers (available on Amazon), which let me check RH levels without opening the container. These are totally optional — the tray system works just as well without them.
While I haven’t yet designed a dedicated insert for the hygrometer, I plan to build a filament spool holder that feeds filament directly through the sealed container wall — potentially integrating the hygrometer into that setup.
Key features include:
• Tight-fitting wedge clamps on the lids for a snug, rattle-free lock
• Snap-fit tabs along the tray edges that securely engage with matching recesses for added strength and tactile feedback
• Symmetrical, mirrored geometry ensures perfect alignment and interchangeability between lids and trays
• Parametric design with evenly spaced tab placement for consistent fit and easy customization
• Optional engraved branding and vented lid ribs for airflow and visual appeal
Each tray and lid also includes a small engraved set of my initials as a subtle maker’s mark — a personal touch that doesn’t affect function but adds a bit of identity to the design.
This tray system works beautifully for short- or long-term storage across a wide range of items. It’s modular, adaptable, and ready for whatever you need to protect — from moisture, pests, or time. Designed for FDM 3D printing with minimal supports and easy assembly.
