Description

Boost Me (for free)

If this model helped you, please support my work by giving me a boost. Thank you!

Hello everyone,

I believe that lighting shouldn't be static. It should adapt to your space, your mood, and your needs. That’s why I’ve spent months developing a completely new ecosystem that puts the design power in your hands.

I am incredibly proud to introduce Mod3: The Modular Lighting System.

What is Mod3?

Mod3 isn't just a lamp; it’s a construction kit.

The core of the system is a library of interchangeable base modules in varying shapes and sizes. Using a threaded connection, you can screw these modules together to build a lamp height and silhouette that is truly unique to you.

Once you’ve built your base, you pair it with one of the custom-designed diffusers and/or shades to complete the look.

One System, Infinite Uses

Because the system is modular, you aren't limited to just a table lamp. By mixing and matching parts, you can build:

  • Table Lamps: From squat bedside lights to tall, architectural statement pieces.
  • Lanterns: Add the loop module to create portable, hanging lanterns.
  • Pendants & Torches: Configure the modules for hanging or handheld use.
  • Light Bars: Connect multiple units for a wider spread of light.

There a lot of parts so I have separated the print profiles into categories

  • Kits
  • Lamp Shades
  • Diffusers
  • Bases

Hardware Compatibility

I wanted this system to work with whatever hardware you have on hand. The core modules are designed to accept:

  • LED Lamp Kit - MH001
  • 16-color RGBW Puck Lights - KC007
  • Waterproof RGB LED Light & Remote Control - KC020
  • LED Flame Tea Light Candle - KC017

The Shade Designs

To launch the system, I’ve designed two distinct shade styles to suit different aesthetics:

  1. The Artisan Woven: A classic, rattan-inspired structure that creates a warm, traditional, and cosy atmosphere.
  2. The Helical Lattice: A modern, bold design featuring intersecting spiral geometries that cast dramatic, complex shadows.

Printing & Materials

  • 100% Support-Free: Every single part of this system - bases, threads, and shades - is designed to print without supports.
  • Material Recommendations: The bases look incredible in PLA-CF or Matte Black for that premium, weighted feel. The shades shine when printed in PLA Wood (for the Woven style) or bright/matte colours for the Lattice.
  • Printing Tip: While support-free, the shades feature intricate patterns with steep overhangs. Slow your print speeds down for the shades to ensure the cooling fans can keep up with the detail.

I can't wait to see the unique combinations you build.

Happy Printing!

I'm continuously upgrading my home and workspace, so please follow @moss3d for new uploads.

yes, the bulbs still give off heat. They have been in place for over a month now, with no sige of warping or deforming

Hello! What you created is amazing! Question I have, could you possibly explain more how you designed the files? Like what program/software did you use, etc. How were you able to design those patterns? I'm a college student interested in learning more how to do designs like this. Thanks in advance!

Thank you, that's very kind of you. Most of this stuff is born out of my desire for testing new 3d modelling techniques, I use a few different 3d modelling apps in conjunction, for example I might create a basic model in Fusion, then move to 3ds Max to work on the mesh, they all have their benefits, I think Blender is a good place to start because it does everything for free! but I'm to pick it up. The shades were made creating with 3d splines in Fusion, you only need to create a few then sweep it and create a circular pattern
