Twist-Extend Candy Cane Saber — Mechanical Toy

Description
🍭✨ Candy Cane Saber — Merry Elven Telescopic Blade
(Forged by festive chaos, powered by engineering)
Design by YY the Panjang
A festive mechanical twist-to-extend saber disguised as a candy cane!
Turn the hook at the bottom and the blade smoothly slides out — a fun Christmas build that looks complex, but is surprisingly achievable as long as you follow the guide.
This model uses a triple-lead screw telescopic actuator mechanism to create the extending action.
Everything is fully 3D-printed (no magnets, no electronics), designed to snap together with satisfying movement.
★ Good news:
Assembly is very doable — the key is light lubrication on the lead screw before sliding the blade in. Once that is done, the mechanism becomes smooth and reliable.
⚙️ Engineering Highlights (Elven-Approved)
1️⃣ Triple-Core Telescopic Screw — Thin as a candy stick, stable as a reindeer’s stance
Three nested screw tubes print together as a locked stack.
The thinnest is only 6 mm yet extends to 168 mm tall — normally a disaster for tall prints.
So I added anti-tilt stabilizing supports, tested especially on the A-series (the elves’ least favorite for tall, thin parts).
2️⃣ Smooth Motion — With Proper Lubrication
Clearances are tuned for smooth movement, but this mechanism relies on multiple sliding surfaces.
To avoid jamming after extended play, lubrication is required.
Please follow the assembly manual carefully and apply oil to all indicated contact areas.
With proper lubrication:
✔ No jamming
✔ Cleaner telescopic motion
✔ Longer play life
✔ Happier elves
3️⃣ Peppermint Stripes — 45° print angle for maximum cuteness
The candy shell prints at a 45° angle for smooth curvature and clean stripes.
Use AMS multi-color or manual swaps (8 swaps total).
Either method creates crisp peppermint lines worthy of Santa’s candy kitchen.
4️⃣ Material Choices
- PETG for gears & screws (durability for elf combat)
- PLA for the candy shell
- Lubrication: Required for long-term use
🖨️ Print Info
- 0.2 mm layer height
- ~9.5 hours print time
- ~222g material
- Custom supports included
- extra wall on the screw for durability
- Works on all Bambu Lab printers
Assembly Tips
- Follow the manual for lubrication points
- All parts snap together — no glue needed
- First few turns may feel slightly tight; this is normal and will smooth out after a few cycles
🎄 Who Should Wield This Saber?
- Snow Elves
- Reindeer mechanics
- Festive engineers
- Humans who enjoy twist-to-extend gadgets
- Anyone making Christmas videos or decorations
