Description

This is a replacement fan housing with fan guard for the 3 center fans of my Supermicro CSE-836 case as I didn't want to cut up the original ones to fit my Noctua NF-A8 PWM fans. It should be compatible with loads of other Supermicro 2U/3U/4U cases including CSE-213, CSE-216, CSE-219, CSE-826, CSE-836, CSE-847, CSE-848.

I didn't like the existing designs on Thingiverse which route the cable on the outside of the housing and didn't come with a latch hook so I designed a new one including a latch hook. Too bad there was nearly no space running the wires so I could only fit a small guide on the lower side.

To make it work you need to cut off the cable sleeving of your Noctua fan but the rubber anti-vibration dampers can stay on although it will be a little cramped.

This housing uses some pretty tight tolerances as there isn't much room so some size tweaking may be required.

Also I may redesign the connector holder in the future as the connector doesn't always stays in the connector holder when removing the housing from the server. The connector Noctua uses doesn't have any notches on the connector which the original fan connector does. This isn't a big issue but sometimes you have to pull the cable after removing the housing. If anyone is having trouble with it please let me know in the comments.

Ps. 2 slightly different fan guards are shown in one of the included pictures but the one in this file is the one I used in the final design.
