Dynamic Tool Clip for MultiBoard

Description
Tool Clip – Parametric Multi-Board Holder (Remix)
This clip started as a way to mount my WERA drivers to a Multi-Board… and it turned into something far more useful. The original model was good, but I needed multiple diameters and more flexibility, so I remixed it into a fully parametric tool clip that can hold an entire range of tools — round, not-so-round, and everything in between.
Support MultiBoard Parts (Required)
This does not mount directly on a Multiboard and will require a supporting snap or screw. I suggest a raised screw; I find it works the best since this is a friction-fit part.
- This is the raised snap I would suggest: https://thangs.com/designer/Multiboard/3d-model/Raised%20Moderate%20Weight-Bearing%20Snap-989145
- This is the raised screw I would suggest. The big head if you need to push further away from the wall. The flat if you are ok with the 1mm distance built into the part.
🔧 Key Features
Parametric Inner Diameter
Set the ID to match your tool’s actual measurement. The magic trick:
- Make the printed ID 1–2 mm smaller than the tool’s measured diameter.
- Smaller tool = smaller reduction.
- Example: For a 10 mm tool, drop to 9 mm, not 8 mm.
Snap-Fit Flexibility
Although this is a static print, the wall thickness is tuned so the clip can flex outward as the tool snaps in:
- The opening temporarily expands during insertion.
- The clip grips tighter once the tool is seated.
- PLA performs well here; I haven’t seen creep or fatigue.
ABS/PETG may provide an even stronger long-term bite if desired.
This flexibility is what makes the “minus 1–2 mm” sizing rule work so consistently.
Automatic Clip Opening
The clip opening defaults to 25% of the inner diameter. Adjustable in parameters if you want to change the bite strength.
Fixed 1 mm Standoff from the Mount
The clip includes a non-parametric, fixed 1 mm offset between the mount and the holder.
This prevents tools like mallets from bottoming out and provides reliable clearance.
Surprisingly Universal Fit
Designed for WERA screwdrivers — but it fits pliers, markers, mallets, and even some tube caps. If it’s vaguely cylindrical, this clip probably has it covered.
📚 Community Tool-Size Library (Growing)
I want this to become a solid reference guide for anyone dialing in their own size.
If you use this model, comment with:
Tool Make & Model → Actual Diameter → Inner Diameter Used → Fit Type
Example:
WERA 826 T → 25.5 mm actual → 23.75 mm ID → Tight snap fit
I’ll add your results to the library below.
🗂️ Confirmed Fits So Far
| Tool / Brand | Actual Dia. | Inner Dia. Used | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| WERA 826 T | ~25.5 mm | 23.75 mm | Excellent snap fit |
| WERA 821-1 RA | ~25.5 mm | 23.75 mm | Same fit class as above |
| HALDER Mallet | ~17.5 mm | 16 mm | Perfect with the fixed standoff |
| WERA 816 R | ~17.5 mm | 16 mm | Very stable grip |
| Pica BIG Ink 170/46 | ~18.1 mm | 16.75 mm | Perfect snap in place |
| Pica Dry 3030 Pencil | ~16.8 mm | 16.75 mm | Slips in and out very well. The bumps on the case hold it in place. |
| Knipex 10" Pliers Wrench 86 02 250 | ~12.2 mm boxed or ~15.5 mm boxed | 16.75mm | No snap but slips in and out very well and is very stable overall. |
More will be added as the community contributes.
🛠️ Why This Remix Exists
Most Multi-Board holders are designed for one specific tool. This one isn’t.
A few parameter tweaks let you mount half your bench with the same clip design. It’s clean, flexible, durable, and scales extremely well.
Huge thanks to the original designer. The simplicity of this design, paired with its printing speed, made it very appealing from the start.
