About the Species – T-Rex (Tyrannosaurus rex)
Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest predatory dinosaurs ever to roam the Earth. It lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 68–66 million years ago, in what is now North America. An adult T-Rex could reach up to 12 meters in length and weigh more than 6 tons.
It was characterized by a massive skull, incredibly powerful jaws and banana-sized teeth designed for crushing bone. Although its front limbs were famously small, they were extremely strong and ended in two sharp claws. T-Rex had excellent vision, a highly developed sense of smell and could probably reach speeds of up to 30 km/h, making it both an effective predator and a capable scavenger.
Modern research suggests that its body was mostly covered in scales, though juvenile individuals might have had feathers. T-Rex is one of the best-studied dinosaurs in history, thanks to dozens of fossil discoveries, including preserved skin impressions and bones showing signs of injuries and disease.
