Description

This is the start of my series “The Drop”: portable and functional training hangboard in several dimensions and versions to train your fingers. Designed for climbing training, bouldering and general finger hanging.

They need a rope (up to 18 mm) or a carabiner to be used during training.

Every version has 6 edges with 6 different dimensions: 18 mm, 15 mm, 10 mm, 8 mm, 6 mm, 4 mm.

There are three models available here:

  • The Drop: the original triangle hangboard with 6 different edges (92 mm long, 57 g print)
  • The Drop Plus: a larger version with a full span for 4 fingers of about 80 mm (133 mm long, 107 g print)
  • The Drop Mini: a smaller version for two-finger training in about 40 mm (63 mm long, 33 g print)

They have been designed and tested to withstand up to 150 kg (330 lb).

If you need something stronger, use a technical material, increase the wall count or check out The Drop Pro!

There is also a version available with the colored text, but I suggest sticking to the single color, avoiding large waste (if you do not have a tool-changer-like printer) and compromising structural integrity.

MATERIAL and PRINTING

I tested them in PLA, and the results are great. Feel free to print them in any filament. I used several types of PLA, and they are strong enough; PLA+ is the best. Avoid PLA Matte or Wood-filled PLA since they have weaker layer adhesion.

Since the models have details and important geometry on every side, I designed them to be printed at a 45° angle on the plate, making them clean, strong and almost isotropic. Tree supports are generated to allow some hoverhanging areas and stabilization during the print, leaving a usually clean underside.

I suggest using at least 6 walls or 100% infill, and increasing the hotend printing temperature to enhance layer adhesion. The texture inside the pockets can be adjusted using the Fuzzy Skin parameters in the slicer.
