Description
This component is a rack and pinion drive system designed to convert rotational input into linear output.
The assembly consists of a pinion gear (round) engaging a rack gear (linear).
As the pinion rotates, its gear teeth interface with the rack’s teeth, producing controlled forward or rearward translationalong a fixed axis.
This mechanism provides:
- Positive mechanical engagement
- Predictable motion under load
- No slip, unlike belt or friction-based systems
Common tactical uses include:
- Manual and powered actuation systems
- Weapon platform elevation/adjustment assemblies
- Rail system deployment mechanisms
- Mechanical linkages requiring compact linear travel
The design is durable, mechanically simple, and reliable in environments where precision and repeatability are required without dependence on electronics or hydraulics.
