Mechanical Hand — 3D-Printed, No Supports
A simple, fun mechanical grabber that prints in one piece and works right off the bed.
No supports required.
Material matters:
Works best with slightly flexible PLAs (tough/ductile PLA, PLA+ with some elasticity).
If your PLA is brittle, the thin linkages can crack during use.
Cooling: After printing, let the part fully cool before moving anything—warm PLA is more prone to stress and whitening.
First run lubrication: Put a tiny drop of light oil/lubricant on the actuation strap/tape (the band that moves the fingers). This helps the motion run smoother and reduces wear.
Notes from testing
I printed this hand on several filaments. It works correctly on a more flexible PLA, but with more brittle PLAs the mechanism tended to crack at thin joints.
Safety
This is a hobby gadget, not for loads or hazardous use. Keep away from small children due to pinch points and small features.
