Key features
- Fully parametric: ball size, neck diameter, MagSafe pocket diameter, pocket depth, and cord notch width
- Cord path gap is adjustable
- One piece print, get the MagSafe Puck a good fit and glue that bugger in.
- Flat top face for tape or logo badge if you want to brand it
Parameters and guidance
| Parameter | What it controls | Typical values | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ball_Dia | Ball that plugs into your socket | 17, 20, 25.4 mm | 25.4 mm is “1 inch” RAM style |
| Neck_Dia | Stalk under the ball | 10–16 mm | Thicker neck for heavier phones |
| MagSafe_Dia | Puck outer diameter | 55–60 mm | Apple puck is about 56 mm. Leave 0.2–0.4 mm clearance for PETG |
| Pocket_Thk | Lip height that captures puck | 1.4–2.2 mm | Thicker lip holds tighter |
| Cord_Slot | Cable exit width | 3.2–7 mm | Fit to your cable jacket |
| Plate_OD | Overall plate diameter | MagDia+5mm | Larger plate increases stiffness |
Sizing notes
- For a tight press fit, set MagSafe_Dia to puck diameter minus 0.2 mm in PETG.
- For ABS or ASA, reduce clearance slightly since parts shrink more evenly.
- If your socket is very tight, scale Ball_Dia down 1 to 2 percent.
Print settings (tuned for Bambu and similar printers)
- Orientation: plate flat on the bed, ball pointing up
- Layer height: 0.20 mm
- Walls: 3 to 4
- Top/bottom: 4 to 6
- Infill: I used a very high infill, like 90% (First one I made had snapped on me)
- Supports: only under the neck fillet if your slicer flags it. Paint supports just around the neck, leave the plate clean
- Brim: 3 to 5 mm brim if using ABS or ASA
Material
- PETG is the safe default for cars
- ABS or ASA for high heat and sun
- PLA is fine for indoor or winter use but can soften in hot cars
Assembly
- Press the MagSafe puck into the pocket. If needed, warm the ring slightly with a hair dryer.
- Route the cable through the notch and snap it into place.
- Pop the ball into your socket mount and adjust angle. Done.
Compatibility
- Works with Apple MagSafe puck and most third-party clones
- Ball sizes from 15 mm to 26 mm are easy to achieve with the parameter
Tips
- If the ball squeaks in the socket, wipe it with a tiny bit of silicone grease.
- For a looser puck fit, add a very thin TPU ring under the lip.
- If you remix, keep at least 3 wall lines around the ball and neck for strength. Or change the neck thickness.
