Description

I needed a slim case for a Meshtastic mesh node that I could easily carry in my pocket. I was tired of bulky nodes and wanted something smaller.

The Reg case squeezes in a 103450 lipo battery and the RAK19003 board. The Nano case takes a 102535 battery. I have options for an external antenna or a case that uses the included small antenna for a more compact node.

Also here is a stand for these cases if you want them standing up on your dash while driving etc.

Feel free to reach out to me at TheTinkerBadger@gmail.com with questions, suggestions, or if you would like to buy one ready-made.

I have added some files and print profiles that include space for a GPS module. Note that the cases are minimally larger.

The GPS module used is the RAK12500 https://store.rokland.com/products/rak-wireless-rak12500-gnss-gps-location-module-u-blox-zoe-m8q

Amazon link for GPS Module https://amazon.com/dp/B0D33SFFGF

Battery life estimates:

From my use, this is the approximate battery life you could get for each configuration

Reg case using 2000mAh battery without GPS:

10 -14 days (I have averaged 12 days 6 hours)

Reg Case using 2000mAh battery with GPS:

20-28 hours

Nano Case using 850mAh battery without GPS:

4 - 6 days (I have averaged 5 days 4 hours)

Nano Case using 850mAh battery with GPS:

8 - 11 hours

The 19003 board mounts using the included screws.

The lid attaches using some M2x8 screws. https://amazon.com/dp/B0D3X4LJD2

The antenna pictured: https://amazon.com/dp/B0DMN2T5C6

The internal antenna cases have a recessed slot on the inside walls to fit the included antennas.

This is the battery I used on the Reg case https://amazon.com/dp/B0DWFQPYDW

Same battery but cheaper direct from china https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256809533127732.html

NOTE: This battery comes with the plug in the wrong polarity! Make sure to switch the wires around. Tutorial on repining:

As always, please verify the polarity of the battery connector!

omg thank you so much for releasing this. There arent that many compact portable RAK19003 cases out there and this is almost exactly what I was looking for. I also happen to have all the exact same components that I ordered for my build by coincidence. You the GOAT man. I will be using this as inspiration for my own design. Any chance you could release the raw F3D files? I would like to tweak the design to include a push button for putting the RAK19003 into deep sleep, add holes for mounting a walkie-talkie clip on the back, and add a loop for a carabiner. EDIT: Im dumb, I have never actually clicked the carat next to the "open in bambu studio" button, I found the CAD files. thanks so much!

I have added a print profile and a Step file to the Node stand model that can act as a charging stand with a USB-C cable with 90 degree adapter. https://amazon.com/dp/B0BNMCMYNF https://makerworld.com/en/models/1975181-stand-for-slim-case-node-case#profileId-2124247
