Description
This is the spring side end of the inneards on a Reelcraft LG3040 123 9 40' electrcal Cord reel.
This is the part that is prone to breaking. I hope it works for you. I just built this and replaced in my own reel and it seems to be working just fine. I was tempted to do it out of PETG, but I just did PLA.
I like Reelcraft, but I was very disappointed that they will not honor the lifetime warranty that was promised on Mine. Oh they were happy to tell me I could go buy another $600 all metal one as they appear to have discontinued this line, but when I asked them to honor the limited lifetime warranty of this one that I bought in 2012. They will not.
So I made my own version of the part that broke. If you open up the main unit there are two halves. One half has the short stubby electrical contacts, the other side (this side) holds the spring.
It's not easy to get the spring into this thing no matter how good you are. I'd recommend wrapping the spring tighter so you have about an inch of play on the side, then jamming shims in between the spring and the sidewall to hold the spring down, then you'll have a little work to nudge the spring into the slot I've made. There is a hole on the spring end that needs to be held in place. I've designed the recieving end to be a bolt or pop rivet, but you may want to widen it to your need. I used a small bolt.
The original design was good for mass produced items, but it wasn't robust enough. I had bought two of these, thank goodness, but even the one I just pulled out of the box is breaking the same was as the original. It's a design flaw. Probably why they're not building these any more.
