MiniCrossBow - KE2.04 ✅Safety-Edition ✅
Now with cotton-swab ammo!!!

Finally a rework of my Mini-Crossbow! toothpicks were cool but dangerous. This version uses cotton-swab projectiles for more safety and better flight behavior.
Furthermore, this version comes with additional RIS rails and extra options to customize the crossbow with a shoulder-stock-grip attachment, tactical front grip, scope and an ammo holder!

The mechanism for locking the bolt as well as the cocking mechanism and trigger point have been revised for an even better feel when firing!

🎬 Video Insights🎬
In this video I talk about the thoughts behind switching from toothpicks to cotton swabs as ammo, plus some extra considerations about using matches as projectiles. At the end, you’ll see a direct shot comparison between the Crossbow TP and the Crossbow KE version.

Features

Safety mechanism: The handle is locked while cocked, which suppresses and slows down accidental firing..
Logo-mechanism: Only when the handle is pressed forward again is the crossbow ready to fire.
RIS rail system: Modular and extendable, e.g. with the included scope, ammo rest, shoulder-stock grip, tactical front grip.

This model is clearly based on my first Mini Crossbow version, but almost all parts have been reworked, making it a standalone series of its own. The Crossbow TP1.07 parts are not fully compatible with the Crossbow KE2.04 version.⚠️

Magazine: single-shot
Extras: target boards + projectile heads

Range: Dangerous at 6–7 m, but only 2–3 m effective
Ammunition: cotton swabs, + alternative head
Penetration: Does not get stuck in cardboard or similar!
Hazard: ricochets are possible → always wear eye protection ⚠️

Print recommendations
Limbs & mechanics → Optimal: PETG HF or PLA Basic (stable & durable)
Other parts → Also work well with PLA Matt or PLA Basic
String → Use nylon wire 0.5 mm, not braided nylon (slides better and holds tension cleanly). Alternatively, fishing line of 0.5 mm thickness works.

Safety warning

This model is a low-power mechanical toy launcher.

Do not aim or shoot at people, animals, faces, eyes, windows, vehicles, or fragile objects. Even if the impact may seem minor, a small projectile can still cause injury, especially if it hits the eye. Wearing eye protection is strongly recommended.

Safety Measures

This model includes constructive safety limitations. The mechanism, tolerances, and material strength are designed for the intended low-power toy function at the original scale.

Scaling, reinforcing, or modifying the model may cause malfunctions, breakage, or unsafe behavior and is not supported.

This model is not a firearm, not a firearm part, and is not compatible with real firearms or real ammunition.

! The green sticks are not printed parts! They are simply filament pieces cut from the spool.

Field report

The cotton swabs are definitely the better choice… not only are they safer, but their head-heavy weight keeps their flight path straighter for longer, which makes them more accurate and more fun.

I had to give up on the magazine because cotton swabs don’t fall cleanly like toothpicks. Instead, a spring sits inside that keeps the cotton swabs optimally positioned and held so they don’t fall out on their own and there are no feeding jams because the string catches the end of the cotton swab and pulls it forward. With toothpicks it can happen that the string slips under the toothpick and the toothpick isn’t pulled along and just gets pushed back up into the magazine!

The cotton-swab heads wear out quickly, lose their cotton and eventually get so worn that they can get stuck in cardboard or vegetables and become dangerous again! That’s why I included alternative snap-on heads that distribute the force over a larger area and are also suitable for fly hunting 😎👍

I was inspired by Uhtimate's targets and created my own foldable version! now included in this set. Thanks for the inspiration!

⚠️ Important safety note ⚠️

Although this mini-crossbow shoots cotton swabs, they can still land in the eye. Therefore, never shoot at yourself, other people, or animals! And above all, after reloading, do not look down the barrel!!!
