After a Sony Alpha 7 IV and the Sony Alpha 6400 constantly overheating, I designed these fan holders to solve the problem once and for all. Because of the hot shoe mount, the holder should fit any Sony camera and maybe even more cameras of other brands to keep them cool.

Note: For my build, I used 9V fans and operated them at 5V for maximum silence while video recording. But 5V fans will work as well, while being a bit louder (depending on the fan).

Features

  • Stop your cameras from overheating
  • Tested on Sony Alpha 7 IV and Sony Alpha 6400
  • Probably compatible with all Sony cameras with hot shoe mount (and maybe even other brands)
  • Easy to print and assemble
  • Three Variants for different electronics configurations (see Bill of Materials below)

Bill of Materials

Option 1: Fan with USB Cable
- Use a 5V 50mm fan with integrated USB plug to not have to solder an USB port: https://amzn.to/42jbSD8 (affiliate link)
- Fan screws: https://amzn.to/47voef2 (affiliate link)

Option 2: USB C Variant:
- USB C port (7.7mm between screw hole centers): https://amzn.to/46okaem (affiliate link)
- 2x M2x4 screw for USB port mounting: https://amzn.to/4pkW4Kd (affiliate link)
- 50mm fan (my build used a 9V fan powered with 5V to be slower and quieter, but 5V fans will also work): https://amzn.to/47rl4Jf (affiliate link)
- Fan screws: https://amzn.to/47voef2 (affiliate link)

Option 3: Micro USB Variant:
- Micro USB port (8.7mm between screw hole centers): https://amzn.to/4mQstGV (affiliate link)
- 2x M3x4 screw for USB port mounting: https://amzn.to/41DmkVT (affiliate link)
- 50mm fan (my build used a 9V fan powered with 5V to be slower and quieter, but 5V fans will also work): https://amzn.to/47rl4Jf (affiliate link)
- Fan screws: https://amzn.to/47voef2 (affiliate link)

Recommended print settings (or just use the provided print profiles)

  • Layer Height: 0.12mm
  • Screws: 100% infill for stability
