Description

Anti-hail Net Clip - The Ultimate Garden Protector

This design was born out of necessity in my own apple tree fields. I was tired of flimsy store-bought clips breaking under the sun or getting lost, leaving my crop vulnerable. So, I created this robust, reliable, and easy-to-print Anti-hail Net Clip. Now you can use it to protect your own precious garden, orchard, or vineyard from damaging hail!

Designed to be a durable and long-lasting solution, this clip ensures your protective nets stay securely in place, season after season. Whether you're setting up a new net or replacing broken clips, this model has you covered.

Key Features

  • 🌿 Versatile Application: Use it to securely fasten your anti-hail net to its supporting cables or to seamlessly join two separate pieces of netting together for complete coverage.
  • ☀️ Built for the Outdoors: This isn't a job for standard PLA! For maximum durability and longevity, print these clips in PETG or ASA. These materials offer excellent UV resistance and can withstand high summer temperatures without warping or becoming brittle.
  • 💪 Strength on Demand: My tests have shown that the recommended print settings provide more than enough strength for typical conditions. However, if you live in a particularly windy area or want an even more heavy-duty version, simply increase the infill percentage for an incredibly tough clip.
  • 🔄 Seamlessly Compatible: No need to replace all your existing hardware! This design is fully compatible with the most common anti-hail net clips you can buy at agricultural supply stores. Lost a locker or an anchor? Just print the part you need and it will fit perfectly with your store-bought components.

Printing Recommendations

  • Material: PETG or ASA is highly recommended. PLA is not suitable for long-term outdoor use as it will deform under the sun and heat.
  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm for a good balance of speed and strength.
  • Infill: Start with 25−30%. Increase to 50% or more for a heavy-duty version.
  • Supports: They are needed! The model is designed for maximum strength. Since the clips are printed on their side there is a need for supports on that part.

How to Use

  1. Take the anchor piece (the one with the post) and place it underneath the anti-hail net.
  2. Place the locker piece (the one with the hole) on top of the net, aligning it with the anchor's post.
  3. Firmly press the two pieces together until you hear a satisfying 'click'.
  4. If attaching to a cable, simply snap the assembled clip over the supporting wire.

This simple and effective design will keep your nets taut and secure, giving you peace of mind when the weather turns nasty.

If you print this, please share a Make! I'd love to see how it's being used in your gardens, farms, and orchards. Your feedback and photos are greatly appreciated.

Happy printing and happy gardening!
