Description

Like the title suggests this is an steering wheel adapter to fit and MG F or TF steering wheel to your MG ZS or Rover.

This piece is needed because steering wheel from a F/TF is 8mm shorter than original wheel and because of that your blinker-auto-canceling feature doesn't work, if you don't care about this you can use the wheel without this adapter.

For a while this piece was also for sale on DMGRS however the're out of stock now, so had to design my own and probably a lot of other people are searching for something like this as well, so decided to share it here.

To install an F/TF steering wheel a few things need to be done, so see steps below.

Requirements:

MG F or TF steering wheel with airbag and clockspring and this adapter.

Heads up:

Just a small heads up: for me the horn wasn't working because the negative wire was connected to the clockspring using a metal pin in my ZS and on the TF wheel I used it was connected to the wire harness. So compare both wheels and if this is the case for you as well you might need to change the negative wire to match the old wheel or your horn buttons might not work.

Steering wheel removal:

  1. Disconnect the battery, so airbag doesn't go of when removing.
  2. Remove airbag of old steering wheel (2 screws from underside steering wheel)
  3. Make sure your steering wheel is straight then remove old steering wheel, by undoing the big center bold and remove it.
  4. Now loosen up the 2 screws for the plastic cover that where behind the wheel, you don't need to remove this but you need pull frontend section apart a bit so that the clockspring can be removed.
  5. Now remove the 4 screws for the clockspring and remove it.

New steering wheel install:

  1. Print this steering wheel adapter.
  2. Install the clockspring from the F/TF steering wheel and screw in the 4 screws.
  3. Connect cover and screw in the 2 screws.
  4. Push this steering wheel adapter over the steering wheel hub and onto the indicator canceling mechanism, make sure the holes are over the 2 metal pins that stick out, then you can rotate the whole piece till the 2 blocks that stick out from the adapter are on the top and bottom.
  5. Place steering wheel on top and add the big center bolt and tighten it (hand tight + 1/4th is good enough)
  6. Connect car battery.
  7. Now drive and test it :)

Materials:

I just printed this fully solid using PLA (4 walls, 100% infill), if you have ABS or ASA available this might be a better choice,

however it's holding up fine for me.
