Description

Boost Me (for free)

If you like this design, give me a boost! (And give a boost to the design which inspired me!)

This design is inspired by this excellent modular storage box — I printed that version first and really enjoyed it. However, I wanted something a bit larger, simpler, and with a different connection method, so I built my own version completely from scratch. I used no files from the original design, only took inspiration.

Instead of magnets, my drawers use plastic locking fins that (gently!) tap into place with a hammer. These fins securely hold the drawers together while still allowing modular stacking:

  • Tall fins are used to connect two drawers stacked vertically.
  • Short fins serve as caps for the top and bottom layers.

Each drawer is 245 mm long and fits perfectly inside an IKEA Billy bookcase, as shown in the photos. The drawer face includes a handle that slides neatly into place — a small dab of super glue will keep it extra secure. There’s also a small slot on the back of the drawer face to help it lock into the drawer. (Tip: print with supports, then carefully clear the support material out of this slot on the back of the print face). This does use quite a bit of filament and I experimented with a 0.6 mm nozzle though settled on using the 0.4 mm. If anyone has any tips on optimizing the print let me know!

The drawers also feature:

  • Slots and separators that fit snugly, helping organize cards.
  • Side cutouts that make it easier to grab cards.
  • A long, spacious design ideal for larger collections.

Organizing Tips

I personally organize my Star Wars Unlimited collection by aspect, which makes it really quick to pull the cards I need for deckbuilding. Another option is to dedicate a pair of drawers for each set, so you always know exactly where your cards from a given release live.

The colored drawer faces in my build are mostly for decoration, so feel free to get creative — you can keep it simple, or use colors and labels to make your own system.

This project was a lot of fun to make, and I hope it helps others looking for a simple and stackable storage solution for Star Wars Unlimited (or other card games).
