Filament Dry Box for YASHE 3.7L cereal box

For YASHE 3.7L cereal box (available in most Amazon regions from the “YASHE store”). They are cheap in bulk and air tight. They are very space efficient as they are just barely large enough to fit all AMS-compatible spools.

Supports vast amounts of desiccant and is designed to simplify and reduce maintenance, with optional forward-facing round or rectangular hygrometer.

You can print 43 spool holders for less than 1kg of filament. Print up to 24 spool holders in about 12 hours.

Philosophy

V3 is designed to simplify and reduce maintenance as much as possible. Chamfered edges so you can simply pour silica beads in and out without them sticking, and without detaching the model. The sealed nature of the box also makes using silica beads quite optional for already dried filament, but can easily bring filament well below 10% RH when used and maintained.

Hygrometers are useful, but with the amount of desiccant this box supports you will virtually never have to dry the silica beads if the filaments are pre-dried and managed properly. The hygrometer batteries are likely to run out before any humidity in the box becomes detectable, so my recommendation is to use a lid-attached hygrometer which can be trivially inserted and removed. They can also be swapped between different boxes for quickly testing humidity.

Versions

Version 3 is 23g. It is slimmer and more functional, but equally robust.

Version 2 is 35g. It is slightly bulkier. It also has an A1 mini-compatible model.

Instructions

Simply insert the holder into the box and push down on both sides with medium force until it sits tight and level. It's recommended to use the scoop included with the cereal boxes to pour in the desiccant to avoid it bouncing out or being crushed. If you are using V2; avoid pouring beads onto the holder as it may stick to the corners, with V3 the beads will simply slide off by themselves.

Avoid filling with too much silica beads. The silica beads tend to become statically charged and lightly stick to the spool if they touch. Lightly shake the spool to release them if this has occurred. At most 1.5 of the biggest scoop of silica beads is recommended.
