Bill of Materials
Description
GlowRotor is a DIY rotating beacon inspired by classic emergency lights – perfect for makers who love combining mechanics, electronics, and creativity.
This project uses components from Maker Supply, including a geared motor, power board, LED, and switch. The unit is powered via a USB port, making it simple and versatile to run.
When switched on, the LED illuminates and a mirror rotates around it, creating a sweeping light effect similar to police, fire, rescue, or road service beacons. A translucent dome protects the mechanism while diffusing the light for a smooth glow.
Key Features:
- USB-powered rotating beacon light
- Geared motor and LED assembly from Maker Supply parts
- Translucent dome for protection and light diffusion
- Simple switch for easy operation
- Perfect for projects, displays, or creative lighting effects
Assembly Notes
- The mirror is printed using Silver Silk+ PLA for a reflective finish.
- The dome is printed with adaptive layer height to achieve a smooth surface without supports.
- Basic tools and standard Maker Supply components are required for final assembly.
- When using translucent PETG, slow speed at 230 degree recommended.
