Description

This Lumberjack lathe is a very basic beginner's machine with a rotating centre attached to the tailstock in a way which is incompatible with fitting a tailstock mounted drill.

I designed this adapter to facilitate very basic, light duty drilling functionality in conjunction with an SDS chuck. I have tested it and it works for small diameter forstners and wood twist drills. I can't stress enough that this is only for light duty work and the amount of play in the tailstock screw means that you need to centre the drill carefully before you start to feed it into the workpiece.

It requires the use of three jubilee clips to hold it in position and grip the SDS chuck.

Use very carefully, preferably with a face shield. You may wish to experiment with printing the parts in different orientations to optimise strength as you see fit.

This design is probably the fifth or sixth that I tried, with each previous iteration failing, usually due to the holder cracking when fixing it to the tailstock.

It may fit other brands of starter lathe.

Please do let me see how you get on with it and remember that it is only an experimental design for very light applications and is to be used with great care and all the necessary safety gear and precautions.
