šŸ›  Parametric Cover for Attic Folding Ladders

This model is a customizable protective end cover for folding attic ladders. It is designed to fit onto the bottom ends of the ladder to protect the floor, provide a clean visual finish, and improve safety thanks to anti-slip ridges on the angled surface that touches the floor when the ladder is folded down.

The model is fully parametric – you can adjust its dimensions directly here on Maker World to match your specific ladder size and needs.

šŸ”§ Adjustable Parameters:

šŸ·ļø ParameteršŸ’¬ Description
cover_lengthTotal outer length of the cover (horizontal top part).
cover_widthTotal outer width of the cover.
insert_depthInsertion depth – how far the cover slides onto the ladder.
wall_toleranceClearance to ensure easy fit. The value is applied per side, so the total gap is doubled. For example, 0.3 mm results in 0.6 mm total clearance in width and height.
bump_countAutomatically calculated number of raised anti-slip bumps. Cannot be edited manually.

🧪 Fit Test Model – Recommended Before Printing the Full Cover

To save time and filament, it's highly recommended to first print the included fit test model, which contains the same internal dimensions and clearance as the full cover. It lets you verify the fit on your actual ladder before committing to a full-size print.

āœ”ļø Quick print – about 25 minutes
āœ”ļø Minimal filament required
ā— If the test piece doesn’t fit perfectly, adjust the wall_tolerance parameter (e.g. increase to 0.4 mm) and test again.

šŸ“¦ Anti-Slip Ridges on Angled Surface

The cover includes small raised bumps on the angled part, designed to ensure a better grip on the floor when the ladder is unfolded. The number of bumps is automatically calculated based on the cover's length – longer covers will have more bumps.

🧩 Compatibility

The cover is designed to be universal and easily adaptable. By adjusting the parameters, you can customize it to fit most common attic folding ladders.

šŸ–Øļø Print Settings (Recommended):

  • Material: PETG or ABS
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Supports: yes
  • Infill: 30 - 45% depending on desired strength

I printed this because I wanted to strengthen the attic ladder legs and for optics, but also because they are slightly too short I had to print 3 test prints before getting the dimensions right. "outer dimensions" are actually inner dimensions. This design makes no sense for my ladder, the legs are cut at an angle to lay flat on the floor, not perpendicular to the ladder! So the support inside the cover would need to be parallel to the floor, not perpendicular to the ladder. Also there is no way to parametrize the angle, so they don't fit my ladder anyway.

Thank you for your feedback. A small test template is included to prevent printing the full model multiple times. It allows you to verify the internal dimensions first and adjust scaling if needed, saving both time and filament. The listed ā€œouter dimensionsā€ refer to the internal space for the ladder leg — I will clarify this in the description. In your case, the ladder legs are most likely cut at an angle so they sit flat on the floor, not perpendicular to the ladder. This can be solved by placing a square against the shorter side of the leg and trimming it at 45° so the cover can slide on correctly. Since ladder constructions vary, it’s not possible to parametrize every angle in one universal model.
