Description

These are small gauge, 3/8", looms. These are similar in gauge to the KB small gauge looms.

Assembly is pretty straight forward, it's basically built out of two rings that have been chopped into quarters for printing on a p1s as the overall design is larger than the print bed. The two rings get glued together, but offset so that their seams don't line up (think bricks). Take one inner ring piece and two outer ring pieces, and glue the inner into the two outer pieces so that it overlaps the point at which they come together. Then, keep adding inner and outer rings until complete. It will require glue for all of the ring pieces.

The pegs are pretty straight forward as well, just press them in, they should be tight enough to stay, but if they are coming loose you can always add some glue. You can also print pegs in different colors depending on what your patterns require, I like to have one peg for the starting peg in a special color, then do two other colors to signify odd and even. This is great for rib stitches.

The filament choices for the rings are up to you, I went with a Wood PLA, but just about anything should work. The pegs will take abuse from yarn and your knitting hook (not included, I like the KB blue hooks personally), I have printed in ABS and PETG for the pegs, and I think the PETG is more than adequate. It will smooth with use, but you can always touch up rough spots with a file or sand paper, etc. I do find that a finer layer height on the pegs can start off smoother, .12mm works well, and I'm testing .08mm next.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the print, it feels solid and should be durable. Check back, I'm considering designing some of the more common sizes in the future.

This print shouldn't need any supports at all.

UPDATE - I've added an STL for a newer version of the pegs for this gauge loom, it's labeled pegv2.stl. It's a lot smoother and adds material at the base of the peg to prevent the loom hook from getting stuck.

I loved the loom and already made a beanie with it! Any chance of a version with fewer pegs, like around 50?

Love the hat, and I'm so happy you like the loom. I've added a 50 peg version in the files. Let me know if you have any issues with it! I can do any peg count you need, and a bunch of different gauges as well.

Thanks a lot! I'm so glad you liked how the hat turned out, the loom is fantastic. Thank you for adding the 50-peg file so quickly! I'll let you know if I need any other sizes or gauges in the future. Appreciate the awesome support!

No worries. If you look at my other models, I have large gauge loom listed as being parametric. If you view it on the web, you can customize the number of pegs and the number of pieces it cuts it into. You'll have to arrange things on the build plates, but it's customizable. I'm working on posting a version for the small gauge looms as well.

This looks perfect for my needs but unfortunately I won't get the time to print and use until winter so I wanted to thank you for sharing this now. I would love to see more sizes and I love the idea of being able to print pegs in different colors, my old brain struggles sometimes!

I'm currently printing a 41 peg large gauge loom, and just finished printing a 40 peg large gauge loom. Haven't quite nailed down the bigger pegs yet, and working on how to mark parts for easier assembly, but I think they'll be ready by winter when you're ready to knit.

Let me know how you like it. I'm working on some other peg counts, and I am testing a refined peg model tonight.

Absolutely love it. The sturdiness and thickness of the ring is *chef's kiss*. I have arthritis in my hands so it's much easier to handle than thinner hoops.
