3D mapping tool (Manual 3D scanner)
Print Profile(2)

Description
The 3D Mapping Tool is an affordable alternative to traditional 3D scanners. It measures points in 3D space by physically touching them, making it ideal for scanning transparent or shiny surfaces that often confuse regular optical scanners. Since the device is 3D printed, its accuracy ranges from 1–2 mm, depending on how carefully it's used. Still, it offers better precision than most free 3D scanning apps available for smartphones.

![]() Secure the mapping tool and the object you want to measure. Make sure neither of them moves during the process. | ![]() Enter the measured coordinates into your 3D modeling software (I use Blender for this). |
![]() Connect the points with a grid and fill in the surface using planes. Clean up and refine the mesh if needed. | ![]() Export and print your replica or a modified version of the original object! |
Tip:
Set a "zero point" as a reference. When you change the probe tip, your coordinate readings may shift slightly. Having a fixed reference point allows you to recalibrate and adjust your measurements accurately if you're using a different tip.
Instructions:
1.) Assemble the base and the slider. Make sure all parts are aligned and connected as precisely as possible.
⚠️ Note: Some tight-fitting parts may vary slightly depending on your printer. Be patient and use sandpaper if needed - especially when assembling the Y-axis rails.
BASE![]() Assemble the base: Connect the parts using M3 bolts and glue, following the diagram. | SLIDER![]() Assemble the slider: Connect the parts using M3 bolts and glue, following the diagram. |
2.) Lubricate all sliding parts. You can use Bambu Lab lubricant oil or any light machine oil.
3.) Insert the carriage into the rails built into the base.
