Description

Hey, Makers! I'm excited to share with you my latest practical model that will surely come in handy around the house!

Self-Filling Paint Roller with Built-in Reservoir

This universal paint roller holder allows you to fill the roller itself with paint. It's designed to fit standard paint rollers with an inner diameter of 44mm and widths ranging from 145mm to 230mm.

How it Works

The design converts a standard replaceable paint roller into an airtight paint reservoir. To allow the roller to wet its painting surface, you'll need to create holes in it. To simplify this process, I've developed a specialized tool (instructions and video guide provided below). Using this tool along with a regular nail and hammer, you'll easily create the necessary number of holes with the appropriate diameter.

Hole Quantity & Diameter Recommendations

For reference, I used a 180mm-wide roller and relatively thin paint. To achieve even coverage, I created around 30 holes with a diameter of approximately 3mm (using a 3.1x70mm nail). If you're using thicker paint or wood varnish, I recommend making larger-diameter holes.

Assembly Instructions

Below, you'll find a video demonstrating how to assemble the holder and install the roller.

IMPORTANT: To ensure an airtight seal, wrap sealing tape around the parts inserted into the roller.

Here you can watch a video of the first test of model version 1.0 (current version is 1.5! O_o )

my roller has an inner diameter of about 37 mm or exactly 1.5 inches which as far as I'm aware is standard here in America. I want to use this but there's no rollers here that would fit this since its about 45 mm wide. Is it possible to make a version for us Americans?

Thanks. A standard roller has an inner diameter of 1.5 inches and is 9 inches long just for reference

Hello! If you mean the process - you can see it on last video in description. If you mean the result - I can take a photo of the painted boards next time I'm at the cottage.

I gotta see this. paint rollers work by applying paint to the outside of the roller not the inside, this will make your roller sleeves disposable not reusable

I would be very careful with this and this has already been invented - paint runner pro : https://paintrunnerpro.co.nz/#:~:text=It's%20like%20having%20a%20can,area%20faster%20and%20more%20evenly

I never claimed that this was my “innovative development” :) The point is that you can turn a regular replacement roller (which I can buy at my local store for less than €1) into a rather handy tool, at least for me personally :)

I'm not sure if you know how this works. this designer is not selling them. if we went through and got rid of every design on this platform that has a similar design somewhere out in the world, everything would come down. if Hasbro invents something and I make my own, that's not stealing intellectual property. only if I sell it.

So far, I have only tested it with acrylic water-soluble paint and antiseptic wood impregnation, both times after work, I soaked the roller in water for several hours, then rinsed it with a small amount of solvent (just in case) and dried it, after which the roller was ready for further use.

For those of us who printed the full setup, would it be possible to upload a simple size conversion sleeve to enable usage with the US standard?
