  • 5/16 Inc Drill Bit x 1: Used to drill the hole in the fuel can

Description

V2 Update gives a thumb tab to make it easier to open the vent.

V3 Tighter tolerances for a better seal along with chamfered connections giving a bit more robustness to the cap.

V4 Added 45 degree chamfer to the inner neck to help with stringing.  Suggested by D-Turk (THANKS!) and also tightened up the tolerance on the cap so it snaps into place better giving a better seal.  You do have to push a bit harder to get it to snap, but I feel this is worth it to get a better watertight seal.

This is a simple but elegant replacement fuel vent for your gas container.  Drill a 5/16 inch hole in your gas can and use some needle nose pliers to force the fuel side of the vent into the hole.  Now you have an indestructible fuel vent.  FYI the cap is reversed so you don't have to have supports to print this.  It works really well in practice and makes it very easy to print.

I used Bambu TPU 90A for this.  I have some TPU 95A HF coming so I might reprint to see how that works, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. (**UPDATE** I tried with TPU 95a from Bambu and it works perfectly.)  Do not use TPU for AMS because it will be too stiff and I don't know if it can hold up to the gasoline.  The standard TPU seems to hold up great to gasoline.  No supports needed.  Use the print profile included and you should be all set.  Be sure to dry your TPU well before printing.  This makes a huge difference in layer adhesion and this does require good layer adhesion for it to work properly.

The plastic on my gas cans is about 3mm thick.  I designed for a nice tight fit, but the TPU should work on something a little thicker as well.  Enjoy!
