  • M4 Rivnut x 1:

Description

This is a mostly generic plate to replace the Ford Transit rear-view mirror with a holder for dashcam mirror screen.  It connects to the M4 screw just like the original mirror.  I am using it on a 2020 Ford Transit 350 with a 12" PELSEE dashcam.

If you try to black out the front windshield for camping, the original mirror kind of gets in the way.  Add a second chunk of electronics with wires and whatnot in the mix and stuffing a windshield cover under the seats forever and letting the sun come in starts sounding like a good lazy idea.  This bracket is meant to offer more space for a blackout windshield cover.

The design uses a single M4 rivnut and needs the Ford glass hardware for attachment.  If there is enough interest I will look at a design that connects up to the hunk of metal Ford glues to the window.  My van had a mirror and the bits that go on the glass look a bit sinister hence this.  Also, using the ball joint gives a bit of adjustment.  Not much, but a little.  Because the mirror is now a screen and my passenger likes to see what is behind as much as I do, I keep the screen mostly straight on.

To remove the factory mirror, turn the assembly 90° counterclockwise where it connects to the glass.  There is a T10 or similar hex head screw holding the mirror in place in the bracket.

If you do not have one of these cameras, think hard about getting one.  The ability to see everything behind and to the back sides of the van makes driving so much safer.  Also, there are bad guys out there throwing themselves in front of cars, have you not seen the internet?!?

I'm sorry to not be mechanical enough to figure this out. I have the mirror off the windshield but I don't see how to attach the OEM bracket to your print. Mine is a 2018 but I expected the mirror brackets to be the same. Maybe they are not.

This will not work. I need to update the description as I just learned that my Transit with lane keeping assistant and some other tech has a different rear view mirror. Your 2019 and other vans without the driver assist use a wedge mount and is different.

Thank-you so much. I'm actually relieved to know it wasn't just me being an id10t. In the process of attempting to install it, I also learned that if I unplug the factory mirror then I lose the ability to view the factory backup camera in my kenwood radio which I want to keep so I may be stuck with the wolfbox mounted to the factory mirror anyway.

Do you think this would work on a Ford Maverick? I don’t have any additional glass hardware other than what’s on the windshield.

I looked at the mirror hardware for the Maverick and it is different. It looks fairly common though. I have been working on improving this design and have considered making a generic version. I will let you know.

That would be really cool. Thanks for the reply either way.
