PERMANENT Geeetech AMS Lite Adapter
Never think about other spool adapters again!

This one is here to stay (inside your spool).

If you are like me and handle a lot of 3rd party filament, you are probably constantly looking for your “uNiVeRSal" “bEsT eVer” spool adapter, which you printed quickly the other day, so you could use your 3rd party spool. But you don't know where it is, or it's half broken or constantly slipping out of the spool or just not working like you wish.

I am fed up with the constant struggles of having the adapters slip off, not come off the AMS or being hard to get in and out of the spool etc.

So I am creating a series of spool adapters for different brands, which are made to stay inside the spool so you can handle them like every other bambu spool. (If you need an adapter for another brand, text me in the comments!)

INSERT AND FORGET - About the idea of the adapter:

The idea is that these adapters are designed to stay inside the spool for the spools life-span*. You can remove and reuse them when the spool is empy. The design prevents the adapter from slipping off when you unload them from the AMS. 

Yes, you need to print one adapter for each spool which you have in use. And this will save you a lot of trouble and headache. It's worth it.

 

*You should remove the adapter before drying the spool, so the adapter keeps its tension. If you forget it, don't worry. The rotary spool holder of the AMS Lite builds up enough tension to still hold it tightly. But it will become more slippy when it's not on the AMS.

Problem solving list

  • Spools are easy to push onto the spool holder.
  • Spools are easy to remove from the spool holder.
  • Spools cannot slide over the spool holder and hit/scratch the AMS body.
  • You can load them onto your AMS Lite in both directions without changing the direction of the adapter.
  • When you unload, the adapter will not slip out, it will not stay on the AMS, it will not fall out of your spool.
  • You don't need to make sure the little “arms” on the rotary spool holder are in the correct position, like with some other adapters.
  • The adapters are durable, yet use little filament → Less than 30g (with the given PLA print profile).
  • They are reusable once the spool is empty
  • They save time when changing spools
  • No supports needed for printing
  • They can be used as color indicator when you print them with the spools filament

Instructions

Printing 

  • I advise to use the included print profile. 
  • You should print this in PLA or a filament with similar stiffness. 

Usage

I advise to insert the adapter from the back side of the spool e. g. the side with the small sticker (check the photos for comparison). When inserting bend the ends a little inwards, to get them into the spool. The ends might get stuck close before exiting the hole again. Just bend them a little again or simply push harder. When you do this, you should hear a satisfying “click” sound.

 - if not, check if you've inserted from the right direction.

To remove the adapter, just push the upper ends back into the hole, they will not break.

 

Troubleshooting

If the adapter appears to be to "loose" inside the spool, follow these steps:
The adapter should be hard to rotate inside the spool. To achieve this, your filament should be calibrated. I can recommend Orca Slicers Tolerance Test. This will help you to fine-tune your filament, to have exact measurements.


Also Activate Flow Dynamic Calibration when sending the printjob.
