Jurassic Park Barbasol Cyro Can Prop Replica

Description
UPDATE: 7/22/25 - NEW V2 VERSION!
I went back and made a number of adjustments that add up to a much improved model.
- Increased base width to allow the rubber o-ring to fit snuggly inside the Barbasol can.
- Created large and small versions of the upper and lower rings to accommodate different vial types.
- Minor alignment and sizing adjustments for consistency and improved symmetry.
This is my attempt at replicating the disguised Cryogenic container that Dennis Nedry unsuccessfully uses to smuggle dinosaur embryos out of Jurassic Park.
I printed a few other versions floating around online, but was unhappy with either accuracy shortcomings, or how the final prop assembled. I wanted something sturdy (and functional) that I could put together without glue, print with minimal supports, and could be easily painted with minimal prep. This is what I came up with!
I eye-balled the details and dimensions from the Heritage Auction photos of a screen-used prop, and scaled everything to fit standard 1.5ml centrifuge vials, and so the outer diameter fits snugly into a Barbasol can. I tested this with one of the cheap Barbasol Hidden Safe Stash Cans available on Amazon and E-bay, and it fits if you grind off the rolled lip on the bottom of the can. I haven't tested it with an authentic vintage Barbasol can, but I believe it should work once you remove the bottom.
The model prints in 7 pieces, and only the central support requires supports (which are easily removed, and not visible on the assembled prop, since they are inside the post). All the parts screw together for easy assembly - no glue required! There are a few minor accuracy sacrifices for ease of printing (mainly that the bottom is flat instead of concave) but I think they worth it.
NOTE: The top two rings and sleeve are left hand threads. The base, base top, and central post are all standard right-hand threads.
ANOTHER NOTE: The screen accurate centrifuge vials have a ribbed section below the cap. Most of the cheaply available vials omit the ribs and are entirely smooth. The are two variations of upper and middle rings included - print the ones appropriate for the vials you are using. Small for smooth vials, large for ribbed. If you use too large an opening, the vials tend to fall out when the pop-up mechanism is engaged.
Requires:
- 9mmx35mm spring in the central post for the pop-up mechanism.
