Description

While I'm not a massive fan of stripping out my street driven track day car to the point of increasing NVH to obnoxious levels for drives around town, I'm also not a fan of unnecessarily adding weight to the car either. Generally my approach is to, at minimum, try to never increase the net weight of the car wherever possible.

Having just wrapped my decaying dashboard in suede, weighing in at 370g of material and glue (yes, I weighed it, yes that's a very coincidental weight!), I wanted to find a way to remove ~370g from the car at the same time. Considering I haven't been using the factory bose system in my Z for some time, and instead use upgraded speakers in the door and two 6.5" drivers mounted behind the seats, the dash-mounted tweeters were no longer in use.

Weighing them, they came out to about ~370g! Exactly what I needed to remove. However, pulling the wiring/plugs for them would be difficult, and leaving the wiring hanging there would just cause additional buzzing and rattles in the car.

So, I designed these tweeter delete panels, which bolt into the same location as the tweeters, weigh nowhere near as much (combined 26.85g), and also hold the tweeter plugs securely to prevent buzzing.

They're labelled Left and Right, but that's not strict, it's just to give the in-dash air ducting some more clearance. I printed them in Bambu ASA that I had lying around (though I had to modify the cooling settings a bit, as they kept losing bed adhesion when starting the top layers of the base section, so I've dropped the fan speed to 20% max for the model). Given they're in direct sunlight, I'd recommend a higher temp filament like that.

Let me know if you have any notes!
