Track for DuraGrit Sanding Blocks
This idea came to me while making Stumpy Nubs' (James Hamilton) Bench Hook/Shooting Board for my wood plane. James also showed how you can use the shooting board, which is designed for wood planes, as a sanding shooting board using the DuraGrit sanding block if you screw a small piece of plywood to your sanding block. I didn't want to modify my sanding block. I like the profile it already has. The feel and grip are nice and if I were to attach a plate (a piece of plywood), I would have to align it perfectly and remove it every time I wanted to use it for something else. That, or buy a second set. For th sanding shooting board I followed James's shooting board plans for the most part. I like the right-angle and 45-degree features. I did not add a hook to this, however. I found that placing a rubber pad under the board worked well at keeping the board from moving. The track design has holes for screws but I ended up double-sticky taping it to the board using the Fast Cap perminant tape. Works great.
I uploaded the parameterized Fusion 360 files so that you can customize the lengths of the tracks. I made the main track 300mm, which is about the largest you can fit on the build plate when placed at 45 degrees. The horizontal track I made 250mm.
