Description

I printed this business card embosser for my daughter to play with. I was dismayed to see that the cat roller in the picture was not included with the project files so I reverse engineered the roller and made my own with a cat face. I found I had to change the orientation of the rollers a few times because of the backlash in the gears of the original design, but once you find the orientation that works best it makes a nice impression.

Here is a link to the original project. The information in his build guide should apply the same.

Maybe because the pattern is thin, the pattern doesn't come out well on my business card.

Its very important that both rollers mesh perfectly to get a good impression. if they are misaligned even a little it wont make a deep impression. Usually I assemble the gears and the rollers together and slip both rollers in together at the same time to make sure they stay meshed and don’t misalign while installing them into the housing. Also try flipping the rollers as well. Some papers do work better than others, in the photos Im using 300 GSM card stock which is pretty thick. Ive also tried 284 GSM card stock too. Make sure as you crank that the housing isn’t separating either.

Yes the alignment is very important but that is the issue. After printing it it does not align perfectly in any orientation. If you roll it slowly you can feel it jump over the sides of the face for example but there are other issues too.

Are you printing in sport or ludicrous mode or maybe using a temp on the high side that you may be getting filament expansion or slumping? here they are meshed and held up to the light. They mesh in all 5 faces.

The print looked good and was okay, but overall the entire part did not work. Even thin paper blocked the rollers. And unfortunately, the knob always skips at the top. Too bad, I disposed of it immediately

Worked well enough for me with the Bambu basic PLA! Did have to align the rollers after printing by looking which cat face is parallel to a square edge (of the top hole of the roller) then it’s easy to align!

it works fairly well... could maybe improve with a smaller layer height.

easy print. but doesn't make as strong of an embossing impression as I would hope
