Modular Display Box for Miniatures and Models
Print Profile(1)

Description
I have been thinking about making boxes for safe storage and display of my miniatures and printed models for a long time.
The following parameters were important to me:
1 - Protection of miniatures from dust
2 - Simple minimalist shape
3 - As light as possible and yet durable boxes
4 - Transparent front and back wall
5 - Stackability of boxes on top of each other
The boxes have dimensions of 250 x 170 mm (length x width), and I have twenty models in height with dimensions from 55 mm to 245 mm. I recommend choosing the height of the box according to the size of your miniatures.
The internal height of the cow is always 5 mm lower than the total height of the box (e.g. a 95 mm box has an internal height for miniatures of 90 mm). To make the box, you need plexiglass with a thickness of 1 mm or less for the front and back. You also need any glue to fix the upper crossbars. Assembling the box is very simple and is illustrated with a set of photos.
The procedure for making the box:
1 - After printing the required dimensions of the box, cut out the required dimensions for the front and back from the plexiglass. Cutting the plexiglass is easy with the help of a folding knife and a metal ruler. The width of the plexiglass is always 226 mm. The height of the plexiglass is always 5 mm less than the total height of the box (e.g. the height of the box is 65 mm, the height of the plexiglass is 60 mm, etc.).
2 - Now insert the plexiglass into the notches on the box, thus obtaining the front and back walls of the box.
3 - Then glue the upper crossbars to the box and thus fix the plexiglass in the correct position.
4 - If we are going to stack the boxes on top of each other, turn the box upside down and glue the stacking guides.
5 - Then we put the lid on the box and it's done :-) Before gluing, I recommend assembling the box first and testing it, and adjusting the size of the plexiglass if necessary.
The finished box is very light and yet durable enough to be stacked up to about a meter high. You can light the box from both the front and back, if necessary, for a great contrast of the shapes of your miniatures.

Have fun making boxes :-)
