Description

MUZZLE THREAD PROTECTOR by Whistler

5/8-24" for .30 cal
1/2-28" for .22, .223, 9mm.

Octagon or quad slot round.

A friend needed a muzzle thread protector for his new rifle.
I designed these with the 5/8-24" thread standard for .30 cal rifles and then made one of the same dimensions for 1/2-28" (.22, .223, 9mm).
These are 16 mm long, accomodating for the thread length and the free section before the barrel stop.

If you need a shorter, longer, wider or thinner version, just let me know and I will add it to the plate.

These are made in two versions:
1.  Octagon shape, can be used with wrench or by hand.
2. Round shape with four slots for wrench.

If you need some other shape, just let me know. Knurled or textured shapes will probably not print well, but I could probably make some kind of texture like hexagon or webbed to increase friction when tightened and loosened by hand. I do however recommend at least two opposing flat surfaces to allow you to use a wrench in case it sits too tight to loosen by hand.

I printed mine in PETG and it both prints and works well.
PLA should probably work as well, but will not withstand outdoor environments as good.

Bear in mind that plastic may be damaged when using metal tools.
The first time you use the protector, put a drop of oil (silicone or vegetable base) on the threads for less friction.
Also make sure to use the “half lap in, quarter lap out” technice so that the threads are not damaged the first time.

All threads have different tolerances, so you may have to adjust the size proportions (try 1% larger for a looser fit and 1% for a tighter fit).

If you have any troubles, leave a comment before rating. I wish everyone to be satisfied, so let's help each other out.
