🎣 ForgeReel – Rodless Fishing Reel with Built-In Tackle Storage v2

🔧 Design Update – Improved Tackle Storage

The ForgeReel has been updated with a redesigned internal tackle system for improved usability and flexibility.

  • The threads on the internal tackle container have been refined to make opening and closing smoother and more reliable. When used as intended and not overtightened, the lid should be easier to remove and reinstall.
  • In addition to the original layout, this update introduces new internal tackle options, including:
    • 2-slot tackle insert
    • 4-slot tackle insert

These new options allow you to better organize hooks, weights, or small tackle based on your fishing style, while keeping everything contained in a compact, pocket-friendly design.

As always, fit and feel may vary slightly depending on printer tolerances and material choice, but this revision was designed to improve overall ease of use and versatility.

Go anywhere. Catch anything.
The ForgeReel is a sleek, rodless-style hand reel designed for campers, survivalists, and minimalist anglers. Its circular 140mm design holds your fishing line on the outside while the inside stores hooks, weights, or extra gear—all within a screw-together case that’s just 40mm thick and 212g empty.

🧰 Key Features:
Rodless Design – Fish on the go without a full rod setup
Integrated Tackle Storage – Interior space with screw-on lid
Compact & Travel-Ready – 140mm x 40mm, 180g total weight
Support-Free Print – Easy to print on most FDM printers
Made for Mobility – Perfect for bug-out bags, gloveboxes, or backpacking

ForgeReel keeps it simple, light, and effective—just how minimalist fishing should be.

Instructions:

  • Do not overtighten! I have added areas to help get the reel back out but I only recommend tightening slightly till the slot lines up on the reel and the top of the tackle box insert is flat to the reel.
  • If done correctly you can store your lure being used inside the tackle area through the slot for fast easy fishing on the go
  • Casting - Aim the reel with the beveled side toward where you want to cast with the other can throw or spin then throw your bait or lure for extra distance. Reel it in by hand using gloves preferably.
  • I recommend using braided string at 20 pound strength or less for maximum casting efficiency.
  • Be Careful fishing I am not responsible if you injure yourself using this set up!

Great print! Do you have a trick for getting the holes to line up between the storage compartments and the reel? I can't get them to line up and it looks off, I'm sure it is something I did wrong, but I don't know what that is.

your probably doing it right when I print them normally I need to twist it a little further to line them up and after I use it for a bit it wears some on the plastic and starts lining up for me. if your still having issues let me know and I could add a couple to I the inside compartment so you can use it easier

is there something specific about it that your looking for? it’s also a 3d printed product but I’m not just going to outright copy it but if there is a feature you like I can see if I can make my own version of it.

heya, if you could add one more hole in the center, it could work as a holder and you can spin it when you throw the lure, appreciate it

Nice print, please can you add instructions on how to add fishing line to it and how to use the compartments properly for beginners like myself. Thank you! 🙏

I used one of the holes around the outside of it to tie my string to the wrapped it my hand around the reel. I need to change the threads sometime as another commenter mentioned as well

Printed out a single-color version on my P1S wit no issues. The model seems okay, though with a few design choices that make it harder to use: The container/tacklebox section has a screw-on lid, and it screws into the reel in the same orientation. So, you're just as likely to remove the lid (leaving the container in the reel) as remove the container from the reel as you untwist. If the container is full, after the lid is removed, it is very hard to remove the container from the reel (without spilling its contents). There's a raised bar on the bottom of the container that I think is supposed to help get a grip? But if there's stuff in the container, digging down to that bar isn't easy. And, the bar has a curved top, so getting a grip on it with a fingertip is hard (especially with bigger fingers). I suggest putting the opening to the box on the other end, so you remove the box first, then flip it and undo a plug at the bottom (or sliding lid) to open it.
