The Crown Game - Mastermind Deduction

The Crown Game

This is a two-player deduction game with 3D printed parts, players take it in turns to guess the gems on their crown. The player with the fewest guesses wins.

What do you need to print?

• 1x Large crown for the guesser to wear
• 1x Small crown for the guesser to use to guess on.
• 32 x Magnetic gems (8 in each color)
• 2x Chests for storing the gems
• 1x Hard case for storing the game (optional)
• You'll also need 44x 4mm diameter x 2mm magnets.

How to Play?

• The Crown Game is a two-player deduction game where players take it in turns to guess the gems on the crown. The player wearing the crown cannot see the gems, which are placed by their opponent.
• Each round, the guesser uses a mini crown and a set of gems to make a guess. The opponent gives minimal feedback, saying only how many gems are correct in both color and position. They continue guessing until the crowns match.
• The winner is the player who solves their crown sequence in the fewest number of guesses over three rounds

Still confused? Here's an example.

1. The non-guesser player puts "Yellow, Red, Red, Blue" gems on the crown while the guesser has their eyes closed and closes their gem chest.
2. The guesser player guesses "Green, Red, Blue, Red" by putting these on their mini crown in their hands, and holding it up.
3. The other player replies "1 correct" because only the 2nd gem is correct.
4. The guesser now makes a new guess, until they get it fully right. 

Assembly Instructions

1. Print the crowns, they'll fit together on the same printer bed and insert 4mm diameter x 2mm magnets.
2. Print 4 colors of 8 of the Gems. Insert a 4mm diameter x 2mm magnets into each using pump pliers.
3. Print 2 of the chests. They print-in-place just insert the magnets.
4. place the gems inside the chests.
5. Optional: Print the storage case.

Storage Case Assembly Instructions:

1. Print the Lid and Base (doesn't fit on an A1-Mini) using an AMS with Red, Yellow, Black and White filament.
2. Print 2x latches and 2x hinges.
3. Attach the hinges using M3 x 30mm bolts and M3 nyloc nuts.
4. Attach the latches using M3 x 30mm bolts and M3 nyloc nuts.

FAQ

Q. Why do you need 2 chests of gems?

A. Because otherwise it's obvious what gems are used!

Q. What is the average number of guesses?

A. It should be around 5.5 guesses if you play an optimal strategy. 

Q. I don't have an AMS, can I print the storage case anyways?

A. Yes! It just won't have the awesome design.
