Description
Boost Me (for free)
This is my first model on maker world. If you would be so kind as to give it a boost I would greatly appreciate it.
This is a 3D printable Screw-Type Rear Brake Caliper Piston Retractor Tool designed for the 2020 Chevy Silverado and other GM vehicles with rotating-style rear brake pistons. The tool helps compress the piston during brake pad replacement.
Design Details:
- Uses standard 1/4-20 bolts and nuts for the pin arms (hardware not included)
- Accepts 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" drive ratchet and extensions for torque input
- No supports needed
- Can be printed in PLA, PETG, or stronger filaments like ABS/ASA or Nylon for higher durability
- Tested with PETG
Included Files:
- STL (ready to print)
- CAD (for customization)
- 3MF (optional for slicer presets)
Notes:
- Optimized for strength with minimal material waste
- Check thread fit and adjust bolt tolerances if needed depending on printer calibration
- Ideal layer height: 0.2 mm
- Infill recommendation: 40% or higher for stress-bearing parts
- Tested at 10% infill, for this method you need to break loose the piston first using a pry bar between the bolts on the tool.
This tool is a practical solution for DIY brake maintenance without expensive specialty tools. Feedback and remixes welcome.
Edited: Added the Boost button and made the file Free of Restrictions. If you do anything beyond personal use, please give attribution to Tuttamore Designs, because it's the nice thing to do. Be Blessed!
