Description

After a quick print, fold, and tune, this teeny tiny indoor boomerang will take your boredom to new heights! (quite literally)

Folding and Tuning Instructions

  • The first step is to assign a top face. If you are right handed, this is the face that is already on the top before you remove the print from the build-plate.
    • If you are left-handed, the top face will be the other face (when you remove the boomerang from the build plate, flip it over and that is your top face)
  • For each wing, line up the end of the little notch with the edge of a table and press firmly along the entire trailing edge until it is bent downwards by about 5° which will result in a flight diameter of about 3.5 meters. This might take a bit of force and you may hear some cracking sounds but that's fine.
    • Tip: bending this more can be used to decrease the flight range, but beware that this will increase drag and reduce spin.
  • After folding the wings, bend the wings a little so that they curve upwards, and then your boomerang is ready to throw!

Throwing

I recommend checking out this video by Logan Broadbent from the timestamp 3:30 onwards on throwing an indoor boomerang just like mine.

If you still, however, have issues getting your boomerang to fly, feel free to comment here or message me and I'll respond when I can.

Troubleshooting

  • Wings snap when folding
    • This is unfortunately a problem with the filament itself. If it's PLA, try drying the filament. There will, however, come a point where PLA gets really brittle and there's nothing much you can do about that. Consider printing the boomerang with PETG, or just use a newer spool of PLA.
  • Boomerang slows down very fast
    • As previously mentioned, you've probably folded the wings too far. Try flattening it by putting the boomerang on a flat surface and pressing down along the crease until the angle becomes more shallow and then test. Repeat until it flies how you want.
  • My boomerang flies too high and hits the ceiling!
    • You may be throwing the boomerang too hard. If not, bend the wings downwards.
  • My boomerang hits the floor or flies too low!
    • Try throwing harder. If this doesn't work, bend the wings up.
