Description

GuSi radio - the easiest way to enjoy radio

⚠️ Note: This project is now in legacy status and will no longer be developed using Raspberry devices. I am currently working on a new ESP-based version that will lower costs and significantly simplify operation.

The GuSi retro radio is a very user-friendly internet radio. This model (RM5K) is a modification of the original (BM1K).

A detailed assembly guide can be found at gusi-radio.de.
The project and the software can be viewed at GitHub.

Functions

  • Controlled shutdown (Pimoroni OnOff Shim)
  • Simple Wifi connection via WPS or access point
  • Station announcement
  • Four user-defined channels can be configured
  • Pause playback
  • Adjustable standard volume (hold down volume control for 5 seconds)

Difference between BM1K/BM2K and RM5K

If you are looking for a particularly easy-to-use radio for children or senior citizens, take a look at the BM1K model. The RM5K has several buttons that allow you to switch directly to the desired channel instead of rotating them.

Amazing project! The documentation makes this so accessible! Would be possible to have a version that is sized to fit on the bed of an A1 mini?

I’m glad you appreciate it. Unfortunately, I can’t simply scale down the enclosure (my Fusion360 skills weren’t quite up to that 😉). I may release a new version later this year (based on ESP) – I’ll keep your request in mind then. For now, I can only point you to the other design (BM1K) – it fits on the smaller print bed.
