Description

GuSi radio - the easiest way to enjoy radio

⚠️ Note: This project is now in legacy status and will no longer be developed using Raspberry devices. I am currently working on a new ESP-based version that will lower costs and significantly simplify operation.

The GuSi radio is a very user-friendly internet radio with only two buttons. It allows the user to switch through predefined stations with just one push on the button. This makes it especially suitable for seniors or handicapped people.

A detailed assembly guide can be found at gusi-radio.de.
The project and the software can be viewed at GitHub.

Functions

  • Controlled shutdown (Pimoroni OnOff Shim)
  • Simple Wifi connection via WPS or access point
  • Station announcement
  • Station rotation with unlimited number
  • Pause playback (BM2K model only)
  • Adjustable standard volume (hold down volume control for 5 seconds)

Difference between BM1K and BM2K

Both devices work identically, except that the BM2K model has an additional button that can be used to pause playback.
To keep the operation as simple as possible, I wanted to use as few buttons as possible in the initial version (BM1K – for an almost blind grandma). Also take a look at the RM5K as a modified version in retro design.
