Description

Mini Benchy - Functional Diorama for 10th anniversary >>>Congratulation Daniel Norée<<<

Perhaps the most 3D printed model, the legendary Benchy, meets the “Mini Train" Diorama series.

The little Benchys drive around the lake with an island past a lighthouse and a small village with a tiny pier.

This is the 10. Mini Diorama and a perfect match with Benchys anniversary.

You can have up to 9 Mini Benchys driving. But why 9 for the 10th anniversary? Oh no, one ran onto the rocks and is now part of the diorama. So 10 Benchys for the anniversary after all. 😊 It is possible to let less or only one boat drive. Do as you like!

Two Benchy example

Boost Me (for free)

I remixed the geometry from Benchy for better printing in this tiny size. They are only 10.4mm high and weigh just 7 grams, but they print perfect with a 0,4mm nozzle.

As in my other dioramas, the hand-wheel can be turned to make the ships move. This makes it a great toy / fidget.

The benchys are compatible to other Mini Train Dioramas, if you want to see them driving in front of the a train or races against Mario on the a Mushroom Cup. 🙃

All printed parts are designed to get an good result with a 0,4 nozzle and with minimal color changes to reduce waste.

And you can put this diorama to the already designed motor solution:

More is coming… stay tuned….check the “Mini Train collection” and leave a follow👍

Printing:

Note that some parts are very small. Good adhesion is necessary!

In my profile i enabled fuzzy skin for the rocks and the destroyed Benchy which looks really good.

I managed the plates so only 4 colors are used for a single print.

The ship on Plate 3 could be printed as much you like in different colors.

Following PLA Basic Filaments are used:

White (Houses and Base)

Black (Just for Roof Lighthouse)

Silver (Stones)

Blue or Turquoise (Lake)

Bambu Green / Mistletoe Green (Terrain / Trees)

Brown (Pier and sunken Benchy)

Red (Roofs)

Other colors are possible of course, look what you have in stock.

I think it could be easy done with single color, if you want to color from hand.

I printed with a 0,4mm nozzle! Iam very pleased with the result but you can try a 0,2 nozzle as well.

Assembly:

You need for each boat one Ø4x2 and one Ø3x2 (Reflink or use stacked Ø3x1 from Maker Supply)

If you want 9 benchys you will need 9pcs Ø4x2 and 9pcs  Ø3x2.

Add Magnets all with the same polarity direction into the boats.
Take a Ø4x2 and place it to the inner track. Use the prepared magnetic benchy on the other side to hold and get the correct polarity orientation.
Repeat it. Make sure that the distribution is roughly even for maximum 9 magnets/benchys. It's a bit tricky but you can do it, I managed it too.
Place the toothed disc on the magnets. You should see all the magnets. If not, rearrange until you see them all. Then press the disc fully in. You can turn a tiny bit until all magnets are captured correctly. Tip: Use something in the middle, i placed the part on a Duplo Brick which makes it easier to press without touching the ships.
Now you can remove the benchys, and place the terrain on top. Glue the roofs to the houses. Use the trees and houses to combine the base with terrain. Use a tiny bit of glue if you want.
  • Place the Benchys back to the magnetic position, turn the wheel and have fun 😀👍

Hope you like this funny toy and if you want to support me, you can simply follow, boost & like the model.
