Description
So, a while back I purchased a Bionaire Thin Window Fan. I noticed that I kept getting gnats and other small bugs inside, even when it was blowing at max speed. I decided that my window fan wasn't going to go in the window anymore. So what if it didn't cool the entire room down - I just want it to cool me down! So, I did some measuring, and a bunch of test prints, and came out with this cool little stand for my fan. If you want a dual-purpose fan – one for the window, and the counter top -- Or maybe you just want to put your fan somewhere in your house where it blows cool air thru the rooms, without being anywhere near a window… Here ya go!
I recommend the v1 for counter-tops and tile surfaces and such. The longer ones are for things like beds and carpeted floors, so it doesn't tip over as the feet sink into the squishy carpeting.
v1 is my all-around good flat-surface mount. V1 is specifically made so that the little rim along the bottom of the fan is skipped and gets a better hold on the overall plastic surface area of the fan, rather than the tiny ledge from the manufacturer.
v2 has shorter walls than v1, and fits nicely in the ledge groove.
v3 is a copy of v2 but longer, for more stability.
v4 “the log” is reminiscent of a “Lincoln Logs” toy, and has 3 cut notches instead of one, if you find that your fan is tipping over backwards a lot because of excessive pressure, maybe try putting it on the front slot so that it has more leverage behind it to support the added forces.
The v4-v6 variants are the preferred objects for carpeted or soft squishy surfaces.
v5 is a mesh between v1 and v4. A long 3-slot mount with higher walls.
v6 is just v5 but with oval-shaped cut-outs in the flat base so that some fans with a warped or slightly curved plastic fan housings. I find that it's not the best for stability. Print with caution. I made this one in an attempt to fit to my fan which doesn't have a perfectly flat base ridge.
It should go without saying, but I have to anyways. Don't stab people with these. Don't place the mount + your fan on top of people or pets. The sharp ends will stab, and it will hurt. Do not allow children to have access to these. I don't want to see anyone losing an eye because their kid got too curious. The items have sharp ends so that if they do start to tip, the sharp end catches into the fabric and prevents any accident. The last thing you want is a tipped over fan overheating and starting a fire. Do not place the mounts on top of water beds. Water bed + pointy ends = a bad time!
Lastly, I do not know your fan – I don't know the dimensions of your fan, or the power of your fan. It is completely possible that these will either not fit your fan, or your fan over-powers the small grooves and tips over. You can try it though! In the end, please rate fairly.
I suggest not using a textured build plate. The small bumps on the underside could be enough to displace the surface area and cause the mount to slide around – but, if you want to try it, go ahead, and let me know how it goes!
v1 and v3 are my favorites. Give them a try before proceeding to the other variants!
