Description

Introducing the Datassette: A Cassette Case for your 2242 SSD!

I bought this Jeyi 2242 m.2 SSD enclosure but was worried that the exposed USB C connector would get damaged when thrown in a bag or pocket so I designed this little cassette tape inspired case for it. This case protects the connector, has a snap on lid that snaps into closed and open positions, has optional lanyard holes for both the main body and usb caps, and last but not least is completely open on the top and bottom to facilitate cooling the SSD when transferring data. I printed in PLA but depending on how hot your SSD gets it is probably a good idea to print in ABS or high temp material. I'd suggest printing the USB cap piece in a light or transluscent color so the SSD indicator light is still visible when the cap is open. Both parts may need a brim as they are quite thin/small.

To assemble slide Jeyi 2242 SSD enclosure into the side grooves of the main body (it's a tight fit but the arms can easily be spread out a bit). Make sure the arms of the main body fit flush with the sides of the SSD. Take the USB cap and in the open position (vertical with respect to the main body) slide one side snap onto the side of the main body. Make sure the hole for the USB C connector is facing away from the SSD body so it can close over the connector. Press the other side snap into the groove in the other side of the main body. It will snap into place, if this is difficult it helps to place the SSD onto a flat table and press downwards. It's a tight fit but this is necessary for the hinge snap to work. Open and close the USB cap to make sure it snaps into either position.
