Summary

This is a light-up model of the famous V-2 rocket that looks just like its taking off.  You can use various light sources for this, the one I selected has a remote so you can turn it off and on at a distance, change the brightness, choose the color, and even have different animations.  It looks great in bright and dark areas.

The model is of a V-2 Rocket that was produced by Germany during WWII and then after WWII was used by many world powers, including the United States, to jump start their rocket programs.  A V-2 holds the distinction of also being the first man made object to reach outer space by crossing the Kármán line on June 20th, 1944 (learn more).  It reached a the impressive altitude of 574,000ft or 175km before coming back to earth (it didn't orbit the earth, but it did reach space).

If you are interested to learn more about this rocket going into space in the 1940's, Mark Felton has a great video you can view on youtube.

This model is very easy to assemble, just snap together a few pieces and that's it – no glue is required.

To light up the model, simply insert an LED light source into the hole at the bottom of the stand and then pinch the cover to close up the hole.  It works great with various LED lights, such as LED tea candle lights, however, it works best with the LED light and remote linked down below or via this Amazon link.

Bambu Filaments used were:

  • Basic Light Gray
  • Matte Dark Red
  • Metal Iron Gray Black
  • Sunlu Clear PLA (Amazon link)

If you enjoy my work and would like to help support my ability to share more (and even better) models in the future, please consider boosting or buying me a coffee at the link below.   Your support is what helps me have enough filament and supplies to do all the print testing required for my models to be high quality and easy to assemble.  It takes a mountain of test prints for each model. Thanks :-)

Fantastic model! I love it without any light! and the symbol it represents is overwhelming! Few people know that this is the first mankind object to leave earth in space!

Thanks for the boost, glad you are enjoying it 🙂 Yeah, I certainly didn't know it was the first man-made object in space, in all of the documentaries and movies growing up all I ever heard about was Sputnik and Mercury and all those sorts of programs, you don't really hear about this rocket having gone into space.

Look up Wernher von Braun... you will see who actually was the father of USA space program and long time NASA director... Look at his history and heritage and you will understand a lot of the rocket and space program history.

Yeah, I'm quite familiar with von Braun, a very mixed history to say the least, did amazing things for the Apollo program but was also probably culpable in some pretty nasty things during the war that were brushed aside for operation paper clip. History and often progress is a gray zone in many cases

Great model. I modified it to allow the Bambu Lab lamp kit as the light source.

Nice, looks good -- does the lamp kit fit in the hole in the bottom or is the whole in the bottom of the stand too small? I guess I should get one of those lamp kits to try out 🙂

I had to make the hole bigger and add a small mechanism. If you want to greatly increase the audience these lamp-designs can reach, you should definitely make them compatible with the Bambu Lab kit in the future. I know that your license prohibits remixes, but are you okay with me uploading a print profile that has the modified plume? I think many people would appreciate that.

Yeah, feel free to upload a print profile. I didn't know about the lamp kit, but I just ordered a couple of them so I'll start testing with them, thanks for letting me know.
