R2-D2 MCU Mode Files (With 3mm Threaded Inserts)
The Build Strategy: đ ď¸ This is a functional remix designed specifically for builders who want a more secure, "bolt-on" assembly for their droid. While the original design is fantastic, I modified these files to accommodate 3mm brass threaded inserts. This allows for a much more robust mechanical connection, making maintenance and access to electronics significantly easier without worrying about stripping plastic threads.
Why Use This Remix? đ¤
- Threaded Security: đŠ Replaced standard holes with precision-sized pockets for 3mm heat-set inserts.
- Rock-Solid Assembly: đď¸ Ideal for high-movement builds or droids that will be transported to eventsâno more loose panels!
- Remix Credit: đ¤ This is a modification based on the original design (please see the "Remix From" section for the base files and original creatorâs full assembly instructions).
Pro Builder Tips:Â
- Hardware: You will need standard M3 Brass Heat-Set Inserts.
- Installation: Use a soldering iron with an insert tip at a low temp to slowly press the inserts into the pre-sized holes.
I used 3mmX8mm Hex Socket Cap screws.
I got a bag of 300 insetrs on Amazon. Â https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DG59PW2R?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
